The ex-wife of the creator of “Law & Order” claims she was cheated out of what could have been hundreds of millions of dollars in her divorce settlement, according to a New York Family Lawyer.

It is her contention that the management company “negligently and/or purposefully” concealed “substantial assets” of the marital estate “prior to the commencement of and during marital settlement proceedings,” or so the court papers said, according to a New York Family Lawyer.

She also says the company, which managed the assets of her ex-husband, did everything “all for the benefit of Mr. Wolf in order to protect their interests in continuing to manage his assets.”

Sources on both sides of the dispute tell New York Family Lawyers that the divorce case between Frank and Jamie McCourt are expected to continue shortly.

New York Family Lawyers say that most settlements of this nature would be easy to resolve. Frank McCourt would retain control of the Dodgers, while his wife Jamie McCourt would be expected to back away from any dispute.

The couple had already negotiated before the divorce trial began on August 30, according to New York Family Lawyers, but their final requests were hundreds of millions of dollars apart.

Collectors and their families often underestimate the value of those collections, according to a New York Family Lawyer.

Many times, someone will have a collection and instruct their children to take it when they die, so the IRS doesn’t get hold of it. Unfortunately for the family, the IRS will notice the extra income once the items are sold. If these are especially valuable (like more than $10,000), there had better be some really good accompanying paperwork to avoid some heavy taxes and/or fees.

Some of these collections cannot be split, so if there are four kids, it’s not likely they can equally split up certain things like paintings or expensive books, which means selling them at an auction. This can sometimes gain as little as 30 cents on the dollar, once taxes are subtracted, reports a New York Family Lawyer.

Elizabeth Moss is taking the final steps to make her separation from Fred Armisen permanent, New York Family Lawyers have learned.

The actress famous for her role on “Mad Men” filed for divorce from the “Saturday Night Live” comedian in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the dissolution of their marriage, sources told a New York Family Lawyer.

The 28-year-old actress reported the date of her separation as June 26, 2010, only eight months after her quiet marriage before family and friends in Long Island City. Sources told New York Family Lawyers that she also seeks to terminate the court’s jurisdiction to award spousal support to Armisen.

Divorce is common today, and has ended many marriages. But for marriages that have produced children, the family life is not over yet, and there is still parenting to be done. Divorce may be the end for the relationship of the parents, but the children are still caught in the middle, and it’s up to the parents to make the change in relationship either painful or as smooth as such a thing could possibly be, says a New York Family Lawyer.

There are a few things that can be done to make divorce or separation somewhat easier for the children and make co-parenting when the parents are apart less of a challenge with the use of a few simple rules, New York Family Lawyers advice.

It also could help matters along to keep things organized. Different parents will have different schedules, New York Family Lawyers have noticed, and it is very important that these schedules work together for the good of the children involved.

A new book asserts that more than half of all Americans view married same-sex partners as families, a New York Family Lawyer has learned. In fact, most appear to consider unmarried gay or lesbian couples to be a family, as well. This same book also has studies from the New York Times that show more than ever consider homosexuality to be an inborn natural trait.

This is not the end of the story, however, New York Family Lawyers have learned. There is a lot to celebrate in the new book, from the view point of those who advocate gay rights, but there are a few points of contention, as well. Some coverage of the study from the Associated Press uncovers some details that are not quite as cheering, including this part: “There’s a solid core resisting this trend who are more willing to include pets in their definition than same-sex partners.” This solid core is about 30 percent, according to a New York Family Lawyer. A lead researcher in the study had an understated reply: “The sheer idea that gay couples are given less status than pets should give us pause.”

As families change, or even the view of families change, so does family law. You’ll need a New York Family Attorney to help you untangle all the laws you’ll encounter when family matters intersect with legal matters. Your case is important and should be allowed to have the best possible resolution. A New York Family Attorney can provide that.

The state of Oregon has engaged in a rare battle against a Canadian woman over the costs of more than two years of foster care, a New York Family Lawyer reports.

The mother lost custody of her 12-year-old son after leaving him with his stepfather for the summer in 2008, and regained custody in June of 2010. The state would like her to pay for the cost of foster care, which amounts to about $24,000 per year. The charges are being disputed in a Canadian court.

“Not only were we dragged into a broken system, now they’re saying, ‘You must pay for this,’” the mother told a New York Family Lawyer. She did not discuss the legal details, including the actual cost of the care. All questions were referred to her attorney, who was unavailable to answer at the time.

A Los Angeles billionaire has been allowed to hold on to the rest of his money, thanks to a jury, a New York Family Lawyer has learned. It has been ruled that he does not owe his two adult children, a 22-year-old daughter, and an 18-year-old son, any more money. The children were hoping to get retroactive child support of $400,000 a month each. It was their assertion that the out-of-court payments their father had made to their mother were well below what a family court might have ordered.

The billionaire, a very private man, was forced to watch as his private life, including his children, his former girlfriend, and even former attorneys all were displayed in court, according to a New York Family Lawyer.

The case against him presented him as an absentee father who never attended in any important events in family life, not even being present when his children were born. Questions arose about such intensely personal things as love notes, sleepovers, and his preferences in contraception.

The popularity of Facebook grows daily as more and more people share the details of their lives online on a daily or even hourly basis. Some of those details, however, may come back to hurt them, according to a New York Family Lawyer.

“When people are typing on their cell phone and computer and no one is around, they have a sense of anonymity when none really exists,” a Florida family law attorney told a New York Family Lawyer. “You are putting it out to the world and you think it’s just going to friends. It goes to everybody.”

The attorney has used online posts as evidence in a number of divorce cases. For instance, a soon-to-be-ex-husband was accepting alimony payments from his wife, who was represented by the attorney, because he said he was unemployed.

Births, marriages, and divorces are big milestones in life. There were a few less of these major occurrences in the lives of Americans in 2009, according to the findings of a New York Family Lawyer.

The birthrate in the United States fell yet again in 2009, detailed in a report by the National Center for Health Statistics. There were 13.5 births per 1,000 people last year, while the rate was 13.9 births per 1,000 people in 2008. Both of these were lower than the 2007 rate, which was 14.3 births per 1,000 people.

Not only births saw a decline in numbers, but the number of marriages and divorces also dropped in 2009. According to reports assessed by New York Family Lawyers, there was an estimated 6.8 marriages per 1,000 people in 2009. The marriage rate was 7.1 per 1,000 people in 2008 and 7.3 per 1,000 people in 2007.
